THE BROWN MARMORATED STINK BUG

This East Asian insect is a major pest for fruit and vegetables. It has spread around the world via things like freight containers. To prevent this, cargo must be heated to a high temperature for half an hour. The number of BMSB treatments has also increased considerably in the Netherlands in recent years. This is partly because Australia and New Zealand have made treatments mandatory when importing containers.

Maple Group has a BMSB oven at its disposal. If packed cargo needs to be treated, Maple creates the necessary openings before carrying out the BMSB treatment. It is also possible to handle unpackaged cargoes. In this case, the BMSB treatment takes place before application of the export packaging. This is cheaper and faster. “We are at the right place in the supply chain to take care of this,” explains Peter Bokhout. “Moreover, Maple Group is the only export packer in the Netherlands who is certified by the Australian and New Zealand authorities to carry out BMSB treatments.”
